Gateway welcomes students with no prior knowledge of English in the Primary Years Programme and lower years of the Middle Years Programme. English is taught at language acquisition level within the timetable for those with EAL needs.

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING SUPPORT NEEDS

Gateway has an inclusive environment, where teachers work with each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses, including those students with special learning needs. Students with mild learning needs may attend Gateway and receive support from the class teacher and special educator. However, Gateway is not in a position to provide programmes for students with intermediate to severe learning needs.

Gateway has special educators who can provide one-on-one support and collaborate with class teachers in order to facilitate learning in the classroom. The school will also collaborate with parents for particulars to understand the child’s needs to help him/ her in class.

Gateway strongly encourages students’ participation across the curriculum. Students who have received counselling, support, therapy or have been diagnosed with special educational needs should include all relevant diagnostic reports and evaluation documentation for confidential review.

Discontinuation of Enrollment

A positive, collaborative working relationship between the school and a student’s parents/guardians is essential to the fulfilment of the School’s Mission. Accordingly, the school does not tolerate behaviour that is detrimental to the safety, integrity, or dignity of any individual or group. Therefore the school reserves the right to discontinue enrolment if it concludes that the actions of a student/parent/guardian make such a relationship impossible or otherwise seriously interfere with the GIS’s accomplishment of its educational purposes.
